Calvanese Tournament

The 2015 Tournament will be held on Saturday, October 17th. It is open to anyone who resides within 50 miles of the TN Aquarium by Google Maps. Entry fee is $10. Register by calling Frank Knight at (h)886-4179 or (cell)227-8926. Payment can be made by cash or check made out to Frank Knight anytime before the Tournament or even the day of the Tournament. The Tournament Prize is $500, winner take all.

Play begins at 9:00 AM with a Round Robin phase rotating between 2 or 3 venues (depending on number of entrants). All entrants must commit to playing the entire Round Robin, which should end by 1 or 2pm, so that we can accurately calculate the top 4 players, who will then take part in semifinal and final matches, which will occur at the Southside Social following the Round Robin.

The venues being used can be found on our practice schedule on our Calendar for the week before the Tournament. Obviously, one can practice at the Southside Social any time it is open. The Bocce Clubhouse and the private Caldwell Court on Lookout are open only as specified on our Calendar.

We will have a planning meeting at the Bocce Clubhouse (rear of 1811 Dodds Ave.) beginning at 6:30pm sharp to assign players to groups and determine the Saturday Round Robin rotation through the venues. The meeing will be preceded by open practice (see Calendar) and you are on your own for dinner and drinks. We have a microwave. Players do not have to be present at the meeting to be in the Tournament, but we must have a firm commitment to play from you by 6:00pm Friday night, and a phone number where we can call you after determining at which venue you will start at 9am Saturday. Do join us for the Tournament, it has always been great fun and the weather forcast is beautiful!

About:

Andy Calvanese grew up watching (as a child) and then playing bocce in Massachusetts, eventually settling in Chattanooga. When a bocce court was built at Bluff View, and when a tournament was held there every August for four years, Andy was there frequently, playing and teaching bocce to those who came to love the game. He was a major force in forming the Chattanooga Bocce Club. After his death, the Calvanese Singles Bocce Tournament was established to honor his name, encourage excellence in individual bocce play, and to further strengthen growing interest in bocce in the Chattanooga area.
We manage the annual Calvanese Singles Tournament, Chattanooga's "bragging-rights" bocce tournament for the year. The Tournament is open to any resident of the Chattanooga area (50 mile radius from the Tennessee Aquarium on Google Maps), whether a member of the Club or not, and has a prize of $500, winner take all. The entry fee is $10. It is held every October. When the Tournament approaches, details will be put on our Calendar and link here.

Please e-mail at chattabocce@gmail.com with inquires. Feel free to call home phone/Bocce Club phone #: (423) 886-4179. You don't have to be experienced at bocce to enjoy it. Playing in the Calvanese Tournament is great fun, and most of us expect to be humbled while considering it important to take part in this annual event. You can still catch the front end of the growing bocce tsunami in Chattanooga.
